What is the procedure for the production of laminated wood?

In the production of laminated wood, there is a very complex process to be followed, which starts from the selection of the raw material on which the following procedure is carried out:

6 processing stages

Semi-finished products are the products obtained from the initial processing of raw wood and which form the basis for subsequent processing. Gilardi S.r.l. processes products for the furniture and construction industries (door and window frames).

1

DRYING

This phase consists of verifying the suitability of the material so that the degree of humidity is that necessary for the processing and the required resistance: If the degree of humidity is not suitable, a process will follow in the drying cells or the open-air ageing period will be extended.

TRIMMING, OPTIMISATION AND PRE-PLANING

The mixed-width trimmed planks are transformed into fixed-width slats by the trimming process.

The planing process homogenises the thicknesses of the slats and renders the surface of the wood easier to visualise.

The optimisation process eliminates wood defects such as splits, colour spots, knots, sapwood and resin pockets.

3

SPLITTING

Only some of the types of wood we work with require this phase. This process is used as an alternative to the trimming process, when the raw material has a fixed width and is split into two or more slats, according to needs.

PLANING AND QUALITY SELECTION

During this important planing stage, the slats are selected based on their quality: 1st choice (external slats) – 2nd choice (internal slats), colour, and fibre.

5

GLUEING

The last phase of the production process of the laminated wood for windows and doors is glueing. Today, there are two operating lines, high-frequency glueing and cold glueing, which can also work simultaneously based on particular needs.

GAUGING

This phase is present only for “door” products: it consists of calibrating, in two phases, both visible faces of the door jambs.

7

CONTROL AND PACKAGING

Final quality control, stamping and labelling of products, and preparation of packages for delivery.

STORAGE AND LOADING

Final phase of the process, temporary storage of the laminated wood waiting to be loaded for delivery.
